BISHOPSGATE
CREATING FLOW, CONNECTION AND CONTINUITY
SOME PROJECTS BEGIN WITH A STAIRCASE. OTHERS ARE DEFINED BY ONE. AT BISHOPSGATE, THE STAIRCASE WAS NEVER JUST A MEANS OF MOVEMENT, BUT A FEATURE DESIGNED TO SHAPE THE EXPERIENCE OF THE HOME.

Design Chester Hoop Balustrade
At Bishopsgate, Burvills was appointed to deliver a complete staircase package spanning multiple levels and extending beyond the interior architecture into the surrounding landscape. The challenge was not simply to create individual elements, but to establish a consistent design language throughout the property.
At its centre sits a bespoke hoop balustrade comprising more than 250 individually fabricated steel components. This detail is repeated throughout the home, from the principal staircase to a secondary spiral stair and external lightwell staircases, creating continuity across every level.
A handcrafted American White Oak handrail, finished in a rich ebony tone, introduces warmth and contrast while reinforcing the project’s attention to detail.
The result is a staircase that feels integrated into the architecture itself, connecting spaces both physically and visually.
