ARCHITECTURAL METALWORK MATERIALS & FINISHES
meets material
The right MATERIAL,
CAREFULLY CONSIDERED
At Burvills, material selection is central to how our work performs and presents. Each is chosen with care, balancing environment, durability and finish to ensure it meets both practical demands and design intent.
With experience across architectural and ornamental metalwork, we guide material decisions early. This ensures clarity in specification, consistency in delivery and a result that performs well while remaining visually resolved over time.
Materials of Character
Choosing materials like brass and cast iron introduces a layer of warmth, weight, and architectural permanence to a space. While our selection of brushed, antique, and patinated brass tones evolves beautifully over time in high-end interiors, cast iron offers a grounding sense of character ideal for heritage-led projects. These elements are specified where visual richness and a commanding material presence are essential to the design.
Materials of Substance
Stainless steel, aluminium and mild steel form the foundation of much of our work, each chosen for its performance, longevity and suitability within the making process.
Grade 316 stainless steel is used for exposed and coastal environments, while grade 304 is typically specified for interior applications. Aluminium provides a lightweight alternative, and mild steel offers versatility across both structural and decorative pieces.
Materials in Harmony
Finishes play a critical role in both protection and final appearance. We work with trusted specialists to deliver durable coatings, including powder coating, galvanising and plating, specified to suit each environment.
We also incorporate timber, such as oak and walnut, to introduce warmth and contrast. Combined thoughtfully with metal, these finishes and materials ensure each piece is both resilient and visually considered.
